Major update!!

Hello there, we have some major updates to share on the progress of the game!

First of all, know that the game is still in its early stages of development, and we still have a long way to go for it to be the final product, but we are excitingly working on it.

Now, for the updates, these are mostly related to the game mechanics, UI/UX experience, and the level design of the game.

Mechanics:

  • Basic Movement: The movement is overall a lot better now. We still have a few issues with the gravity, and we need to adjust the speed, but it has improved a lot from how it was before. We also added running by using Shift on the keyboard, and the player can now jump on all surfaces.
  • Survival: The survival mechanism is being worked on, and now we have the health bar showing. If it hits 0, the player dies. The main idea of the survival in the game was to have more than one survival bar to maintain, which has been a challenge, but we are making good progress on it. We now have a new bar that represents hunger, and we will add two more in the near future (thirst and pooping).
  • Fall Damage: We added fall damage, so players need to be careful about the places they jump off.
  • Timer: We added a timer on top of the screen so players can see how long they have been surviving in the game.

UI/UX:

  • We have added new visuals to the screens. This is going to change in the near future, but we believe the current visual style we added is fitting to the vibe we are looking for in the game.
  • We have also added new screens for the player to explore (Options, Credits, and Achievements). These are not fully functional yet, but they will be soon.
  • We will be adding a pause screen soon.

Level Design:

  • There were a lot of issues with the old placeholder assets and their colliders, so we decided to remake the level with new placeholders that will be changed in the future.
  • The new placeholders led us to make the level a lot more complex and fun, kind of like a 3D platformer that players can explore more.

Art:

  • We are working on the characters of the game, with the player character being quite the challenge, but it is getting there. So far, we have a model we will be using for an enemy.

Music:

  • We have added a few new songs to the game; these might change as the progress of the game goes on, and we are working on making them function well with the rest of the game.
  • We also added sound effects to the buttons on the screens.

These are all the updates for now; there will be a lot more updates soon.

In a few days, we will be uploading the new prototype version so you guys can try it and tell us what you think of it!
